Aloha – Here on Maui we’re wrapping up our Spring Break week. Wondering what Locals do on Spring Break? Most of us stay right here on Island and enjoy a Stay-cation. It’s our chance to go to one of our favorite spots and hang out with family and friends. One of my absolute favorite places to go is Napili Bay, it’s a pristine crescent shaped sandy beach located about 20 minutes north of Lahaina on the west side of Maui. What makes Napili Bay so special is it’s not overdeveloped with large hotels, stores or visited by tour buses and has retained its natural beauty. The bay is also protected by a submerged reef which keeps the water calm most of the year.
Combine that with a mild shore break, sloping sandy bottom and you have an ideal place for the kids to enjoy Boogie Boarding or bodysurfing. It’s also a great place to take out a standup paddleboard and visit with the Hawaiian green sea turtles that frequent the Bay. After a full day on the beach and you’re looking for something to eat and a refreshing island beverage, head over to the Sea House Restaurant on the north end of the bay. It has a lanai with umbrella covered tables and you can cruise on up in your swim gear and get some mid-day grinds.
Now Here Is Your Maui Locals Guide TIP:
Locals know, the best time to go is during happy hour which starts at 2pm and ends at 5pm. However, if you want a seat on the lanai it’s best to kick off the sand and head on up by 2:30. The happy hour menu is pretty big and includes discounted beer, wine and mixed drinks. One of my favorite Pupu’s is the Poke nachos. Also, it does get pretty busy and service can be well, on Island Time so remember you’re on vacation, sit back, relax and take in the awesomeness of Napili Bay. If you started your day at the bay late and missed happy hour definitely stay for the sunset, it’s one of the best spots on the island to watch the ball drop and enjoy a Pau Hana!
